CUSTOM LIGHTING COMBINING INNOVATION AND TRADITION TO GIVE VALUE TO THE HOME ENVIRONMENT

Just by mentioning Elettra Lamborghini, we immediately think of shows, interviews, videos and obviously her songs: who can really say to have never sung, not even once, the refrain of one of her songs and to have never envied her explosive personality?

You can therefore certainly imagine the surprise of Patrizia Volpato team members when they received a message on Instagram written by Elettra, for the creation of a pendant lighting meant for her new residence.

For sure it’s not something that happens everyday!

This is how the first contact between Elettra Lamborghini and Chiara Corrò, daughter and Business Developer of Patrizia Volpato, actually happened. This was the beginning of a collaboration having the aim to develop a monumental project: the challenging lighting installation dedicated to the sumptuous staircase of Elletra’s new house.

Elletra’s request immediately represented a thrilling challenge for both the scope of the project as well as for the specific characteristics that were demanded.

The lighting body was actually meant to be placed in the beautiful and vast staircase developed on three floors, which takes natural light from a central skylight shaped as a dome and the architecture of which was meant to be kept and exalted.

The house already had other lighting items with a spherical shape and it was mandatory to maintain harmony within the different styles – both with reference to the taste and to the design – still expressing the values of tradition and innovation which are visible in all creations by Patrizia Volpato and that are aspects for which Elettra chose the brand.

The desire of Elettra was to have a unique, luxurious “chandelier”, made of crystal spheres that was not meant to cover the dome skylight and that was meant to be an exceptional architectural element which naturally illuminates the big staircase, yet that at the same time brings complexity in terms of fixing this item to the ceiling.

The engineering of the lighting installation therefore started from listening to the desires expressed by Elettra and from the need to comply with the architectural requirements, leading Patrizia Volpato to conceive some totally innovative solutions.

A BRIGHT PROJECT THAT WAS MADE POSSIBLE THANKS TO AN APPROACH BASED ON LISTENING

Already from the beginning, the dialogue with Elettra resulted extremely proactive and collaborative.

Thanks to a continuous communication within a simple and friendly group chat, between Patrizia Volpato team members, Elettra, her husband and their selected architect, all potential obstacles were solved as well as any hindrance due to schedules, formalities and to anything that could represent a halt to creativity and design.

The chat guaranteed an ongoing communication always shared in real time and it enabled empathy and immediate comprehension, other than a constant cognition in the different development phases, facilitating the project to procced.

This type of approach is a characterizing element within Patrizia Volpato: when custom-made projects are required, the people of this team totally devote themselves to clients. The team also offers support to enable their interlocutors to have a more precise vision of what the final result may be.

In projects like this one, often it is not so easy to have the final vision of the designed project. In our minds, the idea is just a thought and even if the technical drawing develops the concept, not always does it transfer the feelings of depth, levity and distribution related to light.

How could we help Elettra to visualize the project conceived by Patrizia Volpato for her lighting installation?

THE DIFFERENT STEPS OF THE PROJECT: A SCALE PROTOTYPE FOR THE SELECTION OF THE SPHERES MADE IN BLOWN GLASS AND MULTIFACETED CRYSTAL

To help Elettra imagine what Patrizia Volpato had designed for her, the development team made a scale prototype that was presented in the company Show Room located in Venice and here Elettra was able to have a taste of the final effect that the installation would have had in her own staircase.

The selection of the spheres – in terms of their shape, material, transparencies and size – was fundamental to create levity and a sense of ethereal dimension, precisely according to her request.

The harmony and the refinement of the body of this lighting fixture was obtained thanks to the design solutions found by the team and thanks to the preciousness of the spheres, all handcrafted by master glass makers and for this reason unique and inimitable, as they differentiate between each other for size and working process.

NATURAL LIGHT AND ARTIFICIAL LIGHT IN A GAME OF PENDING SPHERES AND CABLES THAT UNVEALS GREAT TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION

The beautiful pending effect as well as the deep respect for the natural light that penetrates from the central dome was made possible thanks to highly innovative fixing solutions, also having the latest technology this enabled the 170 Murano blown glass spheres and the 69 multifaceted crystal spheres to float in the air with an effect of total levity. For each sphere the right position and size was accurately chosen, also by moving them to create the perfect harmony so as to reach the best and most satisfactory result, both with lights off and on.

The project required several studies, over 2000 working hours and the intervention of 30 people at every level, still, the fixing solution and the method by which the cables were fastened to distribute the spheres within the staircase, gave a greatly harmonious and levity effect along the 9 meters of the lighting installation.

For the installation phase it was necessary to study the right way to enable the technicians to work in safety conditions. The building of customized stilts onto the stairs, enabled both the general positioning, as well as the specific regulations in terms of height and size.

A unique project, custom-made, that transformed the vision of Elettra Lamborghini, by means of the tradition (the preciousness of the Venetian glass and of crystal) and the modernity (the ability to find innovative high-tech solutions) that characterize the Brand Patrizia Volpato.
