DESIGN LAMPS AND PRECIOUS CHANDELIERS
BETWEEN TRADITION, ART AND TECHNOLOGY

In a home furnishing or restyling design, lighting plays a fundamental role not only in terms of the style of the spaces and the environment in general, but also according to the character that you want to give to the different areas, as well as to energy saving and to what the chosen elements can tell in terms of history, tradition and technology.

A lighting design project includes different types of lamps, lighting systems and light spots in the house which must respond to housing needs and personal taste.

The right choice of lighting elements helps to make the house welcoming and elegant as well as to feel that deep well-being that everyone wishes for their own home; and this is the goal of every lighting design project.

Let’s see how lighting design can help us to achieve light and shadow effects capable of giving preciousness to the environment.

NATURAL LIGHT, ARTIFICIAL LIGHT AND INTERIOR LIGHTING

A house with good natural light is inviting in itself, but natural light varies according to where you live – it will be colder in the North and warmer in the South – to its exposure, the time of day and the seasons.

If natural light is scarce, it can be increased through the use of mirrors that reflect it inside the house; if it is excessive, the environment can be flat and cold. In this case, processes can be applied to the windows to filter the light or play on the weight of the curtain fabrics.

The presence of fireplaces or candles also affects the lighting and the light emitted by them is to be considered as natural light – a detail which must be taken into account in the lighting design.

Artificial light, on the other hand, in addition to making up for the lack of natural light when the sun goes down, plays an important role because it designs spaces, creates dedicated areas, modifies the proportions and gives style, radically transforming the environment.

Before talking about the choice of lighting fixtures, it is important to define the 5 types of interior lighting: background, indirect, accent, functional and decorative lighting.

BACKGROUND LIGHTING

It is general lighting i.e. the type of lighting that allows you to see clearly when there is no natural light. Usually it is a direct light – preferably dimmable – and it is the foundation on which the subsequent lighting design choices are based: a suspension lamp, a ceiling light, a luxury chandelier or an art installation to which the gaze is automatically directed.

INDIRECT LIGHTING

It is also called ambient lighting and is directly functional to background lighting. It has the function of completing the lighting of a full area and what differentiates it from the previous one is the direction of the light coming from the lighting fixtures.

It can be said that the background lighting is a practical light for all uses, while ambient light creates atmosphere and is generally an indirect and softer light such as, for example, wall lights.

ACCENT LIGHTING

It is the type of lighting that is used to create focal points with a theatrical effect, to create contrasts and direct our attention to certain details. An example of this are spotlights to highlight the presence of paintings, works of art etc. or a particular ceiling light to highlight a table.

Generally, the power of the bulbs, in these cases, is greater than the background lighting, to “accentuate” the detail on which it is directed.

FUNCTIONAL LIGHTING

It’s the type of lighting that is used to perform specific activities, such as reading in bed, working at a desk, cooking on hobs or doing your make-up in front of a mirror.

It is a powerful and directional light which, however, must not interfere excessively with the general lighting so as not to cause eyestrain. Examples are floor lamps and bedside lamps, spotlights used to illuminate the hobs or the lights along the stairs.

DECORATIVE LIGHTING

It is the type of lighting used to create a certain atmosphere and make the environment pleasant, creating plays of light and shadows. It is also an important element to characterise the style of the environment and give personality to the room. We are talking, for example, of floor lamps  and table lamps.

DESIGN CHANDELIERS TO FURNISH YOUR HOME WITH LIGHT

The appearance of the house and the style of the environment cannot be separated from characterising luminous elements.

Home decor cannot stop at the choice of furniture design and neglect lighting design. It is often the details that characterise a room and give it personality.

The choice of a luxury chandelier, with precious materials such as Murano glass and crystal or a design suspension light give shape to and complete the furniture.

But what transforms a lighting design project into luxury lighting?

The idea of luxury is a completely personal concept that follows each one’s taste, but in general luxury refers to an image of quality, opulence, elegance, sumptuousness, wealth.

In lighting, this concept translates into design and style, as well as into the choice of precious materials and refined finishes, originality. Craftsmanship is a plus that makes each lighting fixture unique.

This is the idea of luxury of the Patrizia Volpato collections, which combine the tradition of craftsmanship of Murano glass and crystal with an innovative design that starts from the history and colours of Venice to bring back that atmosphere in the lighting fixtures, the latter using innovations of the latest-generation and including the preciousness of handwork.

The Venezia collection by Patrizia Volpato is a perfect example of luxury lighting and offers a typical Venetian processing: the fringe made of beads in Murano glass paste.

This processing uses the traditional glass beads worked by Murano master glassmakers to create hand-sewn fringes. The extremely elegant and refined lighting fixtures of this collection are therefore handcrafted and extremely precious.

The final effect is one of delicacy and royalty and is declined in different solutions – from the chandelier, to the wall lamp, from the floor lamp to the table lamp – in order to achieve the desired effect based on the lighting project.

The Cristalli collection instead plays on the refraction of light and brilliance. The main elements are, as can be seen from the name of the collection, crystalin its purest version – worked in rods with a triangular section and Murano glass, available in rods with a triangular or square section.

The geometric design breaks down the light and gives life to multiple shapes and plays of light with an effect of preciousness and opulence.
